Ocean themed haiku wanted …

I am looking for haiku that capture a single, vivid image in words.

I like snapshots frozen in time, conjuring something visual or audible or tactile that can be conveyed to the reader in just 17 syllables.

I like haiku that use the English language in an interesting way and that include juxtaposition and/or contrasts, looking at objects in a new, refreshing way.

I am looking for haiku that stand alone and say what they need to say by themselves without the need of a picture. I want the words themselves to convey a picture.

Whether you are a beginner or a pro, each haiku will be considered individually on its own merits. Please check your haiku contains the correct amount of syllables on each line before you email them to me.

Please note that I do not post photographs as it slows the blog down. I am unlikely to post haiku portraying negative views of politics or religion. Always remember, don’t TELL me, SHOW me!

Pure Haiku is still OPEN to Submissions and the THEME is OCEAN.

But this time, you are not allowed to use the words Ocean/s or Sea/s in your haiku/senyru (and you cannot use these words in the title, if you choose to provide titles for your submissions). I want to receive haiku/senyru that are implicit in their mentions of Ocean.

Explore the Ocean from its darkest depths to its farthest sandy shores. Wherever and whatever the Ocean touches is suitable matter for your haiku. Paint me vivid pictures of what sails on the Ocean, what swims and lives in it, what land it touches, its legends and myths…

This time I am restricting the amount of haiku to be published. There will be 20 slots for individual haiku plus a week’s slot for a single featured haiku writer.

The DEADLINE for submissions is 19th January 2018 at midnight.

OCEAN themed haiku written in the traditional/classical form (5-7-5 syllables) will be posted on this site in February & March 2018.

Please read this link before submitting your haiku – How To Submit.

Hi Freya – I emailed my submission more than 24 hours ago but have not received an auto reply. I just sent another email enquiring about my submission and almost immediately got an auto reply. So I sent my submission again…but no auto reply. Not sure what’s going on. I wonder if there’s something in my submission email that is preventing it from getting through?

A chance to get your rendition of this popular short form to a wider audience, Basho would approve I’m sure.

This one is more challenging than Monster, for me personally. I have two written and keep thinking on it. I’ll submit soon. Thanks for doing this. It makes my mind thing!

that’s interesting! the submissions for Monster simply flooded in – this time they’re a steady trickle. for some reason, I thought Ocean might be an easier subject to write on than Monster – I was wrong! I look forward to your haiku when you’re ready to send them in! glad you like the challenge!
