Don’t forget that the deadline for formal haiku submitted on the theme of Elisa Ang Choi’s Painting ends TONIGHT at midnight!
Please read the full submission guidelines BEFORE submitting your haiku!
PURE HAIKU is OPEN to submissions on the theme of TRANSLUCENT.
You are not allowed to use the word Translucent or Translucence in your haiku/senyru (and you cannot use this word in the title, if you choose to provide titles for your submissions). I want to receive haiku/senyru that are implicit in their mentions of Translucent.
The OED defines the verb TRANSLUCENT as “allowing light, but not detailed shapes, to pass through; semi-transparent.” Further definitions can be found at Oxford Dictionaries.
Delight me and surprise me with your haiku that paint vivid pictures of TRANSLUCENCE. Don’t be obvious, seek for subtlety. I want to read lots of aha moments!
There will be 35 slots for individual haiku plus space for up to 5 days for a single featured haiku writer.
The DEADLINE for submissions is 24th January 2020 at midnight.
TRANSLUCENT themed haiku written in English in the traditional/classical form (5-7-5 syllables) will be posted on this site between April and June 2020.

Happy New Year!
Hope you all had a lovely Christmas!
Just wanted to give you all a heads up on how Pure Haiku is being run this year.
I will be opening Pure Haiku to submissions on three separate themes in the first three months of 2020.
The first theme will be announced on 6th January and will run until 24th January. The selected haiku will be posted April-June.
The second theme will be announced on 3rd February and will run until 21st February. The selected haiku will be posted July – September.
The third theme will be announced on 2nd March and will run until 20th March. The selected haiku will be posted October – December.
The reason for this is that my self-employed status means I cannot predict how busy I will be at any given time of the year. I have to schedule all posts that appear on this blog well in advance!
Check back on 6th January for the first theme to be announced!
Please ensure you’ve read all the information (click on the page tabs at the top of the screen) as many updates as to how I select haiku and how haiku should be submitted have been made recently.
I look forward to reading your work!
Please note that haiku from this site are automatically shared to my three Twitter accounts at @purehaikufp, @FreyaPickard and @FreyasClippings.
I no longer post haiku on Facebook and will be closing my Mewe account shortly.
